Microchip Technology PolarFire® FPGAs

Microchip Technology PolarFire® Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) deliver up to 50% lower power than equivalent SRAM FPGAs. The FPGAs deliver low power at mid-range densities with 12.7Gbps Serializer/Deserializer (SerDes) transceivers for security and reliability. The FPGA product family is ideal for a wide range of applications within wireline access networks and cellular infrastructure, defense and commercial aviation markets, and Industry 4.0, which includes industrial automation and the Internet of Things (IoT) markets. PolarFire FPGAs offer cost-effective bandwidth processing capabilities for the growing number of converged 10Gbps ports, featuring a low power footprint. The FPGA product family addresses concerns over cybersecurity threats and reliability issues facing deep sub-micron SRAM-based FPGAs, specifically related to single-event upsets (SEUs) in configuration memory.

Polar Fire Family

Chart - Microchip Technology PolarFire® FPGAs

PolarFire FPGAs offer various device offerings, such as design security with transceivers, low-power transceiver devices, data security with transceivers, and low-power data security with transceiver devices. All PolarFire FPGAs are integrated with multi-protocol industry-leading low-power transceivers. Low-power (L) devices provide up to 35% lower static power. Also, data security (S) devices have an integrated DPA-safe crypto accelerator. PolarFire Devices are currently offered in Extended Commercial (0ºC to +100ºC) and Industrial (-40ºC to +100ºC) device offerings.

PolarFire Core Family

Microchip PolarFire Core FPGAs bring the power efficiency, security, and reliability of the original PolarFire family to a streamlined platform that eliminates SerDes and PCIe® to reduce cost and complexity for a broad range of applications.

Unlike SRAM-based FPGAs, which are plagued by high static power and configuration volatility, PolarFire Core devices leverage nonvolatile Flash technology for up to 50% lower power consumption, instant-on capability, and built-in resistance to SEUs. This feature makes them excellent options for power- and thermally constrained environments such as industrial control, medical imaging, automotive, and aerospace systems.

Small Form Factor Solutions

Microchip Technology PolarFire® FPGAs

Microchip Technology PolarFire FPGAs are available in small form factors for mid-range density devices. For example, the MPF100 device is available in an 11mm x 11mm package. In addition, PolarFire devices do not require external configuration memories that are typically required for SRAM-based FPGAs.
